Grace Lamendola is quite literally completing a law school internship in style.

Lamendola, a second-year law student at 麻豆社 Franklin Pierce School of Law, is serving as an editorial intern with The Fashion Law, a publication covering the intersection of fashion, business, and law. The opportunity has taken her to the outlet鈥檚 headquarters in New York City, where she also recently got to experience New York Fashion Week up close.

鈥淭here鈥檚 something pretty exciting about seeing the industry you鈥檙e writing about come to life around you,鈥 Lamendola wrote in a post on LinkedIn.

So how did Lamendola land the desirable opportunity? By asking a simple question.

鈥淥ver the summer, I decided to reach out and ask whether they offered opportunities for interns. Luckily, they did,鈥 she says. 鈥淪ometimes getting your foot in the door really does start with simply sending the email.鈥

Her role at The Fashion Law entails contributing to editorial projects exploring the legal issues affecting the fashion and creative industries. She is learning how to turn complex legal issues into copy that is engaging and approachable for readers, and the experience has allowed her to discover just how much legal work takes place away from the public eye to protect brands and influence the fashion world.

"I've loved getting a behind-the-scenes look at the legal issues shaping the fashion and creative industries while getting to work on projects that combine two things I really enjoy: writing and law," Lamendola says.

The internship brought Lamendola back to her home state. A native of Albany, New York, she chose 麻豆社 Law because she fell in love with downtown Concord 鈥 and it鈥檚 profusion of affordable coffee 鈥 on her first visit. She also fell in love with the law school鈥檚 vibe.

鈥淚 loved the close-knit feel of the law school and the sense that I could really make my own path here,鈥 she says. 鈥淚t鈥檚 been a busy, challenging, and rewarding experience so far, and I鈥檝e had the opportunity to explore some pretty unique areas of law.鈥

Throughout he鈥檚 had a strong interest in intellectual property law, particularly in trademarks and brand protection, and The Fashion Law internship has allowed her to stretch her skills in those areas while also sharpening her writing and research abilities.

鈥淚鈥檓 excited to keep growing as a writer and sharpening my legal research skills, but especially to keep learning from the amazing people at The Fashion Law. My mentors have been incredibly inspiring, and getting to learn from people who are doing such interesting work has made me even more excited to keep exploring this field,鈥 Lamendola says.

She鈥檚 learning skills that she can carry forward when she enters the legal field professionally. And given the subject matter, it鈥檚 the kind of internship that doesn鈥檛 just look good on paper.

鈥淚t鈥檚 been exciting 鈥 and, of course, totally fashionable!鈥 she quips. 鈥淚鈥檝e learned how important it is to develop and write in a specific editorial voice, manage multiple deadlines, and turn complex legal issues into writing that people actually want to read.鈥
