Cords and Stoles

Stoles are worn to denote academic honors only. Cords are worn to denote University honors, veteran status, and recognized student organizations.

Departments and organizations looking to obtain cords must register their chosen cord color with the commencement office at unh.commencement@unh.edu. Cords are available for recognized student organizations and campus departments. Recognized student organization requests must be made by an executive officer of the group, and campus department requests must be made by a professional staff member of that department. Approved groups may choose any cord color combination except for single white and single gold/yellow cords. Departments and organizations are responsible for the purchase and distribution of their own cords.

Students eligible for Hamel Honors and Scholars College stoles and Latin Honor cords will receive them as they arrive to line up for the Commencement Ceremony.
